Spring break is a month away...

But spring break bus tickets are already on sale, getting me excited for vacation. These are chartered buses from SA (Student Assembly) and they are different from the normal buses in that they go straight from Hanover to NYC with no stops. The regular buses make a number of stops in the New England area and it can take about seven hours. The SA chartered buses are not only faster (only five hours), but they are much cheaper in price. There are buses for each break and they are very popular. Sometimes they sell out in a day, so I stood in line with my friends as soon they started selling. It can be good fun riding back home with your friends on the same bus. I bought roundtrip tickets and I was all set.

Of course, there are other ways to get out of Hanover. There are Dartmouth Coach buses everyday to Boston that take less than three hours. From time to time on weekends, there are chartered buses from the school for students who want to go shop and have fun in Boston. Also, you’re allowed to bring a car to campus after your freshman year, so there are always carpool opportunities. For Thanksgiving break, I got a ride from a senior going to New Jersey.

Dartmouth can seem a bit remote, but a lot of people go hang out in NYC or Boston for the weekend. I think it’s the best of two worlds – you can have a tightly knit campus with gorgeous New Hampshire mountains, but there are also a lot of different ways to get out and have fun in a city. One of my friends who goes to school in NYC visited last term and she was jealous of how Hanover is really centered around Dartmouth and not flooded with bustling crowds of commuters.
