Dimensions!
Finally, after the admissions office spent weeks planning, Dimensions weekend is finally here! It was an incredibly beautiful day outside, and both current and prospective Dartmouth students were hanging out on the green, enjoying the wonderful sunny, warm weather, and just soaking up the spring in all its glory.
I spent all afternoon at Manchester airport yesterday, greeting '11s as they walked into baggage claim and telling them about how excited they should be for Dimensions and why Dartmouth is such a fantastic place! There's an incredible schedule of events that the admissions office and other on-campus organizations has put together. Last night, many of Dartmouth's a cappella groups performed in the Top of the Hop at 11 PM and the UGAs (undergraduate advisors - similar to RAs) in each cluster did a program for the '11s as well - and people were still only arriving!
The schedule for '11s today, tomorrow, and Saturday is jam-packed with things to go and do - a faculty tea at the Top of the Hop, an "Oddities Tour" at the Hood Museum, the official welcome from Dean of Admissions Karl Furstenberg, dessert with the 2010 Class Council, and tons more. I'm thrilled that all of the '11s are here, and I hope that they are too!

Which would be more ideal for college admissions:
- a student that's top of her class, takes many AP classes and academic extracurriculars at a normal high school, or..
- a student who's average in her class at a magnet IB program (richard montgomery HS- newsweek's 15th best hs in the country)?
is giving up some fun during my high school years to go to a magnet IB really worth it? will colleges really know how much extra effort i had to put into my schoolwork at RMHS?

We look at a student based on their context. We want to see that you are taking advantage of whatever opportunities are afforded to you in your environment - we can't say that a student at a school with AP classes is "better" than a student at a school that does not offer APs, because they have had different opportunities.
So to answer your question, neither one is better; it depends on how you do at your school.
I have been reading a lot about Dimensions and I must say its REALLY cool!
I was wondering if ya know how many Indians apply to dartmouth every year?

Hmmm.....I don't know if Dartmouth breaks down the specific statistics as to which countries international students apply from - at least it's not anything that they publish publically. But if you give the admissions office a call, they might be able to help you out!
